In the absence of appropriate treatment, these diseases cause the death of thousands of people every day. This justifies the low life expectancy in Congo, which stands barely at 64 years.
Medical deserts, lack of information, lack of confidence and lack of resources also lead the Congolese to consult unqualified physicians not far away, or to turn to traditional medicines and self-medication, which is used by almost 90% of the population for treatment. These unconventional practices cause serious health problems, with many long-term consequences.
